Every Moment Is a “God Moment”

The eyes of the LORD are everywhere,
keeping watch on the wicked and the good.
— Proverbs 15:3

We continue with devotional thoughts from the Book of Proverbs every Friday. One of the 11 books in the Torah known as the Ketuvim, Hebrew for “writings,” Proverbs is part of the “wisdom tradition,” which also includes Job and Ecclesiastes.

People of faith love to talk about their “God moments.” We all have those stories of crucial events in our lives when we witnessed the hand of God taking an active role, those times when we really felt God watching over us. These experiences become a source of strength and steadfast faith that can last a lifetime.

As servants of God, we are duty-bound to retell our “God moments” to other people, to bear witness to the living God acting in our lives. In the words of King David in Psalms, the generations “celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness” (Psalm 145:7)

But what about all the days where nothing big happens and we have no stories to tell? What about all the moments when we could have used a “God moment” intervention and none came? Was God busy with more important matters?

Every Moment Is a God Moment

Proverbs 15:3 teaches us that God’s providence in our lives never wavers. He is always watching, and He watches everything. “The eyes of the LORD are everywhere.” Every moment. Every day. In every situation. For everyone.

If God revealed Himself and explicitly took over our lives every day, we’d probably be overwhelmed. We would also probably feel incapable of making any real choices. God wants us to be bold and independent. He wants us to use our free will as a force for good, to build His kingdom here on earth. So He stands by and lets us live our lives. The good and the bad.

But we must never make the mistake of thinking that because we don’t always see Him, that He isn’t watching. God, our loving Father in heaven, watches over us, every minute of every day. Every moment is a “God moment.”

Your Turn:

Set aside a moment each day to remind yourself that God watches over everything that happens in our lives. He is with us always.
