A Blessing Beyond Food

Minna is 82 years old and lives completely alone in a tiny, run-down one-room apartment in the former Soviet Union.

Widowed for over 50 years, Minna’s two sisters helped care for her as best as they could. Yet tragically, over the past two years, she has lost both and has no one to help.

When we visited her, it was very clear how desperately alone she felt. What little furniture she had in her home was badly tattered and broken.

Sadly, Minna’s story is all too common in the impoverished Jewish neighborhoods of the former Soviet Union. Many are forced to make the difficult choice between buying food, critical medicines, or basic utilities.

Her eyes welled up with tears as we arrived. “In the past two years, no one has brought me anything. Thank you so much for caring and making sure I have food. Thank you for visiting me,” she exclaimed.
