Why I Stand for Israel

Lynn H

I've always had a heart for what is the right thing to do, and supporting Israel is the right thing to do.

Over and above that, though, is my experience. About fifty percent of the student population in my high school was Jewish. Many of my fellow students lost relatives in the Holocaust. In addition, my brother's best friend's father was one of the prosecuting attorneys in the Nuremburg trials. Growing up I read books and watched films on the Holocaust. From them I learned that Jews have been persecuted for centuries with no place to seek refuge. Today, Israel is that refuge.

Then, of course, there is Scripture: "I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse." (Genesis 12:3) And I believe modern day Israel to be the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 66:7-8, "Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such a thing? Who has ever seen such things? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children."

Knowing all this, how can I not support Israel?
