Tamar: The Journey to Jerusalem

Tamar, 27, grew up in Ethiopia with a strong love for her Jewish roots and the yearning to one day return to her biblical homeland. For most of her life, Tamar did not even know that the modern nation of Israel existed. She was married with children when she learned that there was a Jewish state and that Ethiopian Jews were being flown there through The Fellowship's On Wings of Eagles program.

Tamar and her family packed their belongings and journeyed to the capital in hopes of securing a flight to Israel. Tamar was overcome with emotion when after a long period of waiting word came that they would be flown to Israel On Wings of Eagles. "Each step that I took up the stairs to the airplane I recited another verse of Psalms," she says. "All I could think about were the prayers that my Ethiopian ancestors have prayed, and the tears and blood they have shed, to stand in my footsteps."

On Wings of Eagles also assisted Tamar with her absorption, providing her with Hebrew language instruction, job training courses, and more. Tamar praises God and donors to The Fellowship for making her life-long dream come true. "My whole life has been dreaming about rejoining the Jewish people," she says. "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to fulfill biblical prophecy!"
