Alex: A Young Emigré Given New Life
Alex has come a long way in the past few years. This 18-year-old young man came to Israel On Wings of Eagles from Moldova with his sister and mother. Alex's father died before the family made aliyah, and Alex struggled with a sense of hopelessness and despair about the future - a feeling that grips many young Jews in the former Soviet Union.
Future in Israel
Alex had little opportunity for a real future in Moldova. But he is extremely happy to be in Israel, where he has joined with thousands of other young émigrés who have also made their aliyah to help make Israel strong.
Tragically, Alex's mother died last year. But, despite his loss, he said, "I am not alone because I have friends and teachers, people who care about me." He lives with other young Jewish émigrés in a dormitory at the Migdal Ohr home in Afula, funded by your donations to On Wings of Eagles.
Migdal Ohr has helped thousands of needy Jewish children like Alex get the right start in life. The home is operated by Rabbi Ya'akov Grossman, who says the goal is to "provide a family for these children. They are the future - and saving children is saving Israel!"
Faithful Love
"Our dear friend Rabbi Grossman and his brother are completely dedicated to this work, and have given everything they have to love and care for needy Jewish children," said Rabbi Eckstein.
"I am praying that we will demonstrate an equal love and care for young Jews like Alex and his friends who are preparing for a future of hope and blessing in Israel."
