We were busy, busy today once again traveling on the winding, picturesque roads surrounding the Sea of Galilee, making stops at the Mount of Beatitudes where Dr. Charles Miller Jr. of Chatham, VA, read the Sermon on the Mount. Read More

Another jam-packed day. Souvenir shopping, a visit to the Roman ruins of Beit She'an, lunch at Kibbutz Beit Alpha, and a memorable 125 mile ride through the rolling landscape known as the Judean Wilderness on our way to Jerusalem. Today's also included a stop for camel riding which turned into memorable Kodak moments. Our arrival into Jerusalem was highlighted by the reading of Psalm 122 which commands us to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem." Read More

More once-in-a-lifetime experiences that included participation in a Fellowship-funded project called Table to Table, viewing an elaborate model of what Jerusalem looked like in the time of Jesus, walking down the Mount of Olives, taking communion in the Garden of Gethsemane, and, for some, donating blood. After a breakfast presentation from Dorit Shavit, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, we took a spiritual journey today to Mount Zion to commemorate the Last Supper and to see King David’s Tomb, and a visit to Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu. Our visit to Yad Vashem, the outstanding and moving Holocaust memorial, in the afternoon was followed by an after meeting in which tour members met olim who recently made aliyah (immigrated to Israel). A more relaxed day today spent in the Dead Sea region with a visit to Masada, the Spa of Ein Gedi were floated in the Dead Sea and to Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. As we traveled from through the region we saw Bedouin settlements with goat herders and camels. The day concluded with a memorable Farewell Dinner hosted by Rabbi Eckstein and The Fellowship staff. Our busiest and most significant day was saved for our final day in Jerusalem, the Garden Tomb, in the area where it is believed Jesus was buried and rose from the dead; the Via Dolorosa ("Way of the Cross") including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, marking the location where many believe Jesus was crucified and died on the cross; the Old City of Jerusalem, and the Western Wall where Rabbi Eckstein joined us for prayer. From here the group heads home with an understanding why Jews say, "Next year in Jerusalem."
