Sergey, a fifteen-year-old boy who lives in the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, never experienced the carefree childhood that so many take for granted. Sergey suffers from a nerve disorder and inflammation of the brain that leaves him bedridden. Because his immune system is severely weakened, his illnesses are often prolonged.
Yet, despite his physical infirmities, Sergey is a smart and sensitive child. He enjoys learning about his Jewish faith and traditions from teachers who come to his home from the local Jewish school.
Because Sergey's mother had to quit her job in order to care for him full time, she and Sergey rely on The Fellowship’s Isaiah 58 program, which offers lifesaving assistance to poor Jews throughout the former Soviet Union. In addition to referring Sergey to the nearby Jewish Community Center where he has the opportunity to spend time with children his own age, through Isaiah Sergey and his mother are provided with monthly food packages and desperately needed medicine. Thanks to this support, Sergey is leading a happier and more productive life.
Sergey is just one of the many children in the former Soviet Union who depend on the help provided by Isaiah 58 for their survival. Sadly, there are thousands more in the region who have been abandoned by families too poor or dysfunctional to care for them and live in desperately poor and unsafe conditions. You can offer them hope through a gift to Isaiah 58. Please give today
