Moshe: A Safe Haven
Moshe, a married father of three, lived his whole life in the Israeli city of Ashkelon, located 8 miles north of Gaza. "As far as I'm concerned it's a great place to live," he says. However, after Israel's disengagement from Gaza and Hamas's takeover, terrorists smuggled many sophisticated rockets into the region, putting Ashkelon under threat of attack.
Moshe and his family live in a housing project that was built in the 1950's. Its bomb shelter was run down, ill-equipped and dangerous. It was lacking basic necessities like electricity, plumbing, and toilet facilities. Problems with ventilation and air-conditioning systems created unbearable conditions. Moshe and his family lived in fear that they would have no place to go in the event of a rocket strike.
When a rocket landed near Moshe's daughter's school, killing a student, Moshe's daughter felt completely insecure and began to isolate herself. Moshe says that his daughter "felt as if there were no safe place she could call her own. She didn't want to go to school and she didn't want to leave her room."
But thanks to your donations to The Fellowship's Guardians of Israel, Moshe's bomb shelter was renovated to the highest standards. Concrete reinforcement walls, water tight sealing, new wiring, emergency lighting, and a new ventilation system were installed. Guardians has done similar work to hundreds of bomb shelters throughout the country, ensuring that Israel's people have a safe place to run when the rockets fall.
Moshe is extremely grateful to Guardians for the renovations that allowed his daughter to "come back to life." Your contributions to the many neglected shelters were truly a godsend to those innocent men, women, and children who live every day under threat of terrorism and war.
