A Guardians of Israel Success Story

"Guardians of Israel saved me from homelessness"

Some needy families in Israel scrape by on just enough income to pay their essential monthly bills. An unanticipated expense - a refrigerator in need of repair, a sick child, a broken water pipe - can throw them into financial turmoil from which it is nearly impossible to recover.

This is what happened to Chaim, a father of three. Since his wife died, he has been raising the children on his own. Though he has his own shoe repair business, he barely makes enough to provide for his family's basic needs.

One day Shaul, Chaim's ten-year-old son who suffers from severe vision problems, broke his expensive prescription glasses. Without them, he couldn't continue the school work that is so vital to his future success. In desperation, Chaim made a painful decision - he spent that month’s rent money on new glasses for Shaul. "I had no choice," Chaim says. "The boy couldn't see."

Fearing eviction, Chaim approached city officials to plead for help paying his overdue rent. From them, he found out that The Fellowship through its Guardians of Israel program has set up a special needs fund. Local governments throughout Israel distribute the money to citizens in crisis citizens like Chaim. Thanks to this fund, Chaim received enough money to pay his rent, saving him and his family from possible eviction.

Chaim is overwhelmed with gratitude for the help he received in his time of need. "When they told me about the special needs fund that The Fellowship sponsors, it was like God's sign to me that He will never forsake me," he says. "Christians in America saved me from homelessness… They saved my family, and I am grateful for that forever."
