Sonia: Hope from Guardians of Israel

As a child growing up in Russia, Sonia learned about Judaism from her grandfather. She remembers speaking Hebrew with him and watching him say his morning prayers.

But anti-Semitism in Russia is rampant. Living there, Sonia felt a spiritual void. She dreamed of one day making aliyah (immigrating to Israel). "I am Jewish and Israel is the home of the Jewish people," she said, proudly. "I had to make a choice, and I chose Israel."

Sonia was finally able to come to Israel, and is thrilled to be living in her biblical homeland. But life since the move has been a great struggle. Caring for her children takes up the majority of her time, leaving little for work. She lives off a small government stipend and the money she makes giving music lessons. The family barely gets by and often cannot afford basic necessities like food.

But thanks to The Fellowship’s Guardians of Israel program, Sonia has one less worry. Guardians provides hot lunches to thousands of children who attend schools in poor cities and towns throughout Israel. For many children, it is the only meal they eat each day. Sonia is deeply grateful to Guardians of Israel for providing her children with a daily substantial meal and the nutrition their growing bodies need.

Despite many hardships, Sonia does not regret her decision to come to Israel. Your gift to Guardians of Israel can help families like Sonia’s be confident about their future. Please support Guardians today
