An Answered Prayer
Ovadya made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) from Morocco in 1950, settling in Jerusalem. He eagerly served his country in the army, and later married and enjoyed a rewarding career as a policeman.
Then, one day Ovadya’s wife had a stroke. Paralyzed on her left side, she was unable to walk and was confined to a wheelchair. As her condition worsened, it became clear that she needed more care than Ovadya could give her at home. He was now retired, and his work had never earned him more than modest wages. He had to spend the last bit of his life’s savings securing a place in a nursing home for his beloved wife.
Ovadya was left heartbroken and penniless, but he never lost his faith in God. One day, on his way to pray at the Western Wall, he noticed a soup kitchen, one of the many across Israel sponsored by The Fellowship’s Guardians of Israel program. He was very hungry and went in. What he found gave him great hope. Here, he could receive a nutritious hot meal every day free of charge! And the soup kitchen workers were friendly and happy to spend some time talking with him truly a blessing to a lonely old man.
For Ovadya, the soup kitchen has become a light shining in an otherwise dark life. You can help us shine that light into the lives of many more poor Israelis by giving a gift to Guardians of Israel. Please give today.
