A Guardians of Israel Success Story

Feeding the Hungry

Ursula, now in her 70s, made aliyah to Israel at a relatively late age. The situation in her native former Soviet Union, where anti-Semitism has become an increasing threat to Jews, was simply too dangerous. She knew it was time to pursue her lifelong dream of going home to Israel.

Ursula had been living on a meager government pension before she left the former Soviet Union. But in Israel, even this would not be available to her, as the government has been cutting back on pensions because of the need to fund defense to combat terrorism. And, being elderly and without the knowledge of Hebrew, she could not find a job no matter how hard she tried.

Fortunately for Ursula, she found The Fellowship-sponsored soup kitchen in Bnei Brak, funded by your donations to our Guardians of Israel program. The soup kitchen provides 1,000 hot meals every day through its three soup kitchens, as well as 600 “meals on wheels” to people who are handicapped and cannot reach the soup kitchen. Besides food, a visit to the soup kitchen provides valuable social time for many who might otherwise be alone day after day.

"If it were not for this place, I would struggle just to survive," Ursula says. "This is a great place you are saving us from so much pain. Thank you, again and again!"

Please give today to Guardians of Israel - and help us turn despair into hope for more poor Israelis.
