"We served her and the children right away, and we continued to feed them. I sent one of our volunteers to their home, and she came back in shock. The house was almost bare and the refrigerator was broken. The mother and her newborn slept on an old mattress on the floor. "We went to work helping straighten out their debts, and we are also working to help the father receive some back pay from his former employer."
According to Rabbi Eckstein, organizations like Beit Hatavshil are playing an indispensable role assisting Israelis who are battling problems like unemployment and who need a helping hand. "Rabbi Karkovsky and his staff are doing an incredible work," Rabbi Eckstein stated. "They feed 1,000 people each day through soup kitchens in three Israeli cities, the largest one being in Bnei Brak. They also distribute 600 ‘meals on wheels' each day to homebound people."
