Naomi, 50, lives in Israel and is a single mother to a teenage daughter, Efrat. Naomi cannot remember a day in her life when she was not sick. Suffering from diabetes, since the age of seven she has been on numerous medications that have taken a toll on her body.

Naomi's eyes are puffy and red and she walks slowly because of chronic back pain. Yet despite her many ailments, to support herself and her daughter she works eight hour days for meager pay at a local grocery store. "Efrat has not had an easy life," Naomi says, "but we are a team and we deal with everything together. We try to help each other through each day."

Naomi singlehandedly overcame many obstacles. However, when faced with an exceptionally cold winter, she was forced to make an unimaginable choice. "The temperatures fell so low I had to leave the heat on because my daughter was freezing and I was afraid I would get sick," she remembers. "But when I got the bill, I was stuck in a bind. It was so high that I simply couldn't afford it. I had a choice either to pay the electric bill or buy medication."

With no one to turn to, Naomi prayed to God for a miracle. Shortly after that, she got a call from a social worker who had heard about her plight. The social worker told her that The Fellowship's Guardians of Israel 911 Emergency Fund would cover the cost of their electricity bill through the winter months. Now, Naomi can use her small salary to buy food, as well as the medication she so desperately needs.

"It felt like an angel coming down and helping my family get through the winter," Efrat says. "It was a sign to me that there are good people and a wonderful God who loves me. Efrat and I got through that winter with medicine and heat, thanks to God and The Fellowship."
