Prayer points

Over the last two months natural disasters have caused loss of life and devastation that is almost beyond comprehension. Even as the people of Haiti were attempting to rebuild their lives after a January earthquake, the South American nation of Chile was struck by one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded. Hundreds of people have died, and hundreds of thousands remain without food, drinking water, and shelter. Today, let us pray for the people of Chile who have suffered so greatly, as well as for the security of Israel, the U.S., and the entire world.

• Pray for the people of Chile. Give them strength and perseverance in the months and years ahead as they seek to rebuild their earthquake-ravaged country. Pray that God will comfort those who have lost family and friends, and that all that are still missing will be found and brought to safety. "Answer me quickly, O Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit." (Psalm 143:7)
• Pray for the people of Haiti, that their nation will recover from the devastating earthquake that struck in January.
• Pray that that the suffering people of Chile and Haiti—and all of us—will be reminded that God is present with us in good times and bad. "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there… even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you…" (Psalm 139:7-8, 12)
• Pray that anti-Israel events such as the "Israel Apartheid Week" currently taking place on college campuses around the world will not turn people against the Jewish state. Pray that the truth of Israel's ongoing struggle for peace and security will be told. "Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven." (Psalm 85:10-11)
• Pray that God will protect the armed forces of both Israel and the U.S. that stand on the front lines of the war on terror.
