Turkey’s Army Says It Has Taken Power Over the Country — TV

We’re watching with great concern events in Turkey – which just recently struck a deal with Israel to normalize ties with the Jewish state – about an attempted military coup currently underway there. Gunfire has been heard, and military jets have been seen flying over the Turkish capital of Ankara:

[Turkish Prime Minister] Binali Yildirim told NTV television: “It is correct that there was an attempt.”

Yildirim didn’t provide details, but said Turkey would never allow any “initiative that would interrupt democracy.”

“We are working on the possibility of an attempt. We will not allow this attempt,” he told the television by telephone, without expanding on the nature of the move but saying it was by a group in the Turkish military.

Please pray for stability and for a peaceful resolution to this conflict.
