Alert security foiled what could have been a tragic situation in Jerusalem this weekend. Israel Hayom's Itsik Saban reports that an alert security guard stopped a Palestinian terrorist with explosives from attacking a light rail station in the Holy City:

A terrorist attack on the Jerusalem light rail was thwarted Sunday morning, thanks to an observant security guard.

The guard spotted a Palestinian youth carrying what was described as a "suspicious looking bag," trying to board the light rail at its station on the corner of King George Street and Jaffa Road in Jerusalem -- one of the busiest intersections in the capital.

According to Channel 2 News, the security guard approached the man and asked to inspect the bag. He spotted what looked like an explosive device and alerted the police.

A large police force arrived at the scene within minutes, along with police sappers. Upon further inspection, the bag was found to contain several pipe bombs. The suspect, in his 20s, is in police custody.
