As Stand for Israel reported last week, Israeli PM Netanyahu is meeting with American Secretary of State John Kerry in Rome. Israel Hayom's Mati Tuchfeld writes that the two leaders discussed defense issues important to their allied nations, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian peace process:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held meetings with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Rome on Sunday and Monday.

A member of the prime minister's entourage in Rome said the talks with Kerry focused on defense issues and the peace process with the Palestinians, including efforts to hold a regional conference on the matter. The two also discussed the situation in Europe and the results of last week's Brexit referendum in the U.K.

It is believed that Israel is interested in initiating a diplomatic process with the Palestinians to lessen the potential of increased pressure from the U.S. as President Barack Obama nears the end of his term.
