US to Close PLO Office in Washington

In an address before the Federalist Society, National Security Adviser John Bolton said the U.S. plans to close the office of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in Washington. Bolton said the decision to close the office was made because Palestinians have refused to negotiate with Israel on a peace deal.

  • In his Rosh Hashanah address to the Jewish people, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “I believe in the Jewish future. I believe in the future of the Jewish state.” Israel is in the middle of celebrating the High Holy Days.
  • Meanwhile, during a special Rosh Hashanah service, French Jewish leaders expressed deep concern about anti-Semitic violence and hatred toward the Jewish community in France.
  • On Tuesday, Israel showed support for her closest ally, the United States, by commemorating the fallen heroes of 9/11 during a ceremony at the 9/11 Living Memorial Plaza just outside Jerusalem.
  • During the High Holy Days, The Fellowship partnered with the Yad B’Yad organization to distribute 5,000 food boxes to needy families and elderly in Israel.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship’s Ami Farkas on the meaning of the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which begins at sundown Tuesday, Sept. 18.
