The U.S. State Department announced last weekend its intentions to open a new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem as early as this May. The opening will be much sooner than anticipated, and will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary. The Jewish State declared its independence in 1948.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • Western military sources are reporting that satellite photos reveal a new Iranian military base outside Damascus, Syria, complete with hangars used to store missiles capable of striking all of Israel.
  • The Anti-Defamation League is reporting that anti-Semitic attacks have increased 57 percent over last year — the largest single increase since the ADL started counting them in 1979.
  • President Trump continued to call for a ceasefire in Syria after Russia, Iran, and the Syrian government launched new attacks in recent days.
  • On Wednesday this week at sundown, the Jewish people celebrated the holiday of Purim, which recalls events from the biblical story of Esther and the deliverance of the Jewish people from annihilation.
