Police Officer Shot and Killed in Paris Attack

Just days before its national elections, terror has apparently struck France yet again. The Times of Israel reports that a police officer is dead and another is wounded in an apparent terrorist shooting attack in Paris:

Paris police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert told The Associated Press that the attacker targeted police guarding the area near the Franklin Roosevelt subway station at the center of the avenue popular with tourists.

Reuters quoted a police source who said there were two assailants, and an eyewitness who saw a man emerge from a car with a machine gun and begin shooting.

Police warned people to stay away from the area.

The attack came three days before the first round of France’s tense presidential election. Security is high around the vote after France has been attacked in recent years.

The shooting comes just two days after police arrested two men in southern Marseille with weapons and explosives who were suspected of preparing an attack to disrupt the first-round of the presidential election on Sunday...
