Photo Friday: Sound the Trumpets

An IDF soldier blows the shofar, October 1948 (Photo: GPO)

"It is a day for you to sound the trumpets." (Numbers 29:1)

This past week, the Jewish High Holy Days began with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. In this photo from October 1948, an IDF soldier sounds the shofar, the traditional Jewish trumpet made from a ram's horn, to celebrate the first new year for the modern state of Israel. Shanah Tovah, Happy New Year, friends!
