Israel Launches Patriot Missile Against Syrian Drone

As tensions along Israel's northern border with Syria mount, a Syrian drone infiltrated Israeli territory today. The Jerusalem Post's Anna Ahronheim reports that the IDF's Fellowship-adopted 138th Battalion Air Defense Battery shot down the unmanned aircraft with a Patriot Missile, as seen in the above video:

A Patriot missile intercepted a drone which infiltrated into northern Israel on Wednesday with some parts of the UAV falling in the Sea of Galilee.

According to IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis the Syrian reconnaissance drone, which is not believed to have been armed, flew some 10 kilometers into Israeli territory and fell south of the Kinneret after it was intercepted.

“The aerial defense systems identified the threat and tracked it,” read a IDF Spokesperson’s Unit statement, which added that “the IDF will not allow any violation of Israeli airspace and will act against any attempt to hurt its civilians...”
