Iran’s Rouhani Sworn in to Second Term as US Orders New Sanctions

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was sworn in this week to his second term as the U.S. put into place new sanctions against Iran. The sanctions were ordered in response to Iran’s recent ballistic missile tests that may be in violation of the Iran nuclear deal. Rouhani said the new sanctions are undermining that agreement.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley told the U.N. Security Council that the U.S. is seeking “significant improvements” to the U.N.’s efforts in Lebanon to curtail the spread of illegal weapons into the hands of Hezbollah terrorists.
  • West Bank resident Sarah Rosenfeld, mother of terror victim Malachi Rosenfeld, testified before a military court this week against defendant Amjad Mustafa Salah Hamad, who killed her son. Hamad had been convicted a year ago of accessory to murder and supplying weapons to terrorists.
  • As the economic and political conditions in Venezuela deteriorate, The Fellowship has renewed its commitment to bring at-risk Venezuelan Jews to Israel. In the past 18 months, The Fellowship has rescued close to 140 Jews and expects to bring 100 more to Israel by the end of the year.
  • More than 150 men and women from 12 different countries have volunteered to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. During their service, these “lone soliders,” who have no immediate family in Israel, will be aided by The Fellowship in addition to special assistance from the government.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship’s Yonit Rothchild on the power of “Amen.”
