In Honor of Peres, US Flags to Be Flown Half-Mast

The historic and unending friendship between the United States and Israel has been highlighted again in the wake of the death of Israeli statesman Shimon Peres. Haaretz reports that President Obama has ordered all American flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the former president and prime minister:

In honor of the passing of Israel's former President Shimon Peres, U.S. President Barack Obama ordered all U.S. flags to be lowered to half-mast.

"As a mark of respect for the memory of Shimon Peres, former President and Prime Minister of Israel, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me… that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels," the proclamation called "Death of Shimon Peres" said...
