Former IDF Soldier Saves Houston Couple in Hurricane Aftermath

After Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Houston area with record-breaking rainfall, thousands of people were left stranded because of massive flooding. In one of many acts of heroism performed this week, former Israel Defense Forces soldier Yaniv Jerup, who now lives in Houston, relied on his IDF training to rescue a couple from their flooded home.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

  • U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres visited Israel this week, where he reportedly butted heads with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after calling for an end to Israeli settlements.
  • Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said that President Trump plans to address the international body at its annual meeting this month.
  • The terror group Hamas has announced it is gearing up for another fight with Israel that it is calling “the liberation of Palestine.” The terror group recently restored diplomatic relations with Iran, who is its largest financial backer.
  • More than 7,000 underprivileged children participated in the Fellowship’s Summer of Friendship camps. The $2 million project provided children with activities such as rafting, skating, hiking, and visiting museums.
