26 Killed in Texas Church Shooting

Violence and tragedy again struck the United States on Sunday, as a gunman opened fire during a church service in Texas. CNN's Dakin Andone, Kaylee Hartung, and Darran Simon report that at least 26 worshipers are dead and dozens more wounded in the latest mass shooting to strike America:

At least 26 people were killed in Sunday's church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott said in a press conference Sunday evening.

Freeman Martin, a spokesman with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the deceased range in age from 5 to 72 years old.

At least 20 people have been killed in a church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, according to Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt.

Among the dead is the 14-year-old daughter of the church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, according to his wife, Sherri Pomeroy, the girl's mother. The couple were traveling out of state when the shooting occurred.

Authorities say many more were injured in the First Baptist Church attack that has devastated the small Texas town, described as a place where "everybody knows everybody..."
