Project Spotlight: Sunrise Day Camp

The Fellowship is once again supporting the Sunrise Day Camp for children with cancer and their siblings. The camps provide an unforgettable experience and bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to kids between the ages of 3 and 16 who are struggling with cancer.

Although these children spend most of the year dealing with loneliness and isolation, once they arrive at camp their days are filled with sunshine, laughter, and happiness. The camp does all of this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night.

Five-year-old Yaali is one of 75 children who will spend the next two weeks having the time of their life at the camp held at Nitzane Zevulun School in northern Israel. Due to her illness, she has neither been in nursery school nor kindergarten.

Her parents agreed to allow her to attend Sunrise camp because of their confidence in the care and treatment she will receive. So far she has enjoyed running around with her counselor playing hide-and-seek.

This camp session will be followed by two additional three-week sessions in the center and south of Israel. In all, a total of 450 children with cancer and their siblings will learn what it’s like to forget about the pain of their ongoing reality while they just enjoy being kids.
