Fires Rage Near Jerusalem

A large forest fire broke out in an area just over 18 miles east of Jerusalem earlier today, requiring 12 firefighting planes and more than 40 ground crews to battle the flames.According to firefighting authorities, the blaze "grew at a tremendous rate due to strong winds," and was neared Moshav Eshtoal on Route 38 - the main highway into Beit Shemesh. Route 44 leading to the Nachshon Junction is also closed to traffic and travelers in the area have been evacuated. The blaze, which began in Ya'ar Ha'Nasi ("President's Forest"), also poses a threat to the communities of Tarum, Ta'oz and Kfar Uriya. Please pray that officials on the scene will be able to extinguish the fires soon, and that injury and damage will be kept to a minimum.
