During Passover, which begins later this month, Jews will begin to prepare foods that symbolize their freedom from bondage. For example, they eat matzah, unleavened bread, because when the Israelites were finally freed from Egypt, they didn’t have enough time to prepare bread with yeast as they escaped from the Egyptians. In this recipe, the matzah is dipped in chocolate to make a special dessert for the holiday season.

Olive oil cooking spray
4 unsalted matzah crackers
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
¾ cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil; then spray with cooking oil.
Arrange matzah to fit into pan, breaking if necessary.
Combine butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until boiling.
Boil for about 3 minutes.
Pour butter mixture evenly over the matzah.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and immediately reduce heat to 350 degrees. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees if the matzah are smoking too much.
Remove baking sheet from oven and sprinkle matzah with chocolate chips. Let stand to melt chocolate, about 5 minutes.
Spread the melted chocolate over the matzah.
Place in refrigerator until chilled and set. Break into pieces when cooled and serve.
