Project Spotlight: Shaare Zedek Medical Center

Because of its downtown location, Shaare Zedek Medical Center handles more terror-related trauma cases than any other Jerusalem hospital. Many trauma cases, like injuries from terror attacks or vehicular accidents, require extensive neurological intervention and often immediate surgery.

The Fellowship's latest gift to Shaare Zedek Medical Center of $1 million dollars was used to purchase equipment for The Department of Neurosurgery. In the following thank-you letter, Jonathan HaLevy, Director-General of Shaare Zedek, thanks The Fellowship and our donors:

Dear Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein,

I wanted to take the opportunity to extend my personal thanks for The Fellowship’s latest project in support of our Department of Neurosurgery. This project truly represents one of the most important and exciting development efforts for our hospital in recent decades and we are honored to have you as our partner in making it happen.

As you certainly can appreciate, neurosurgery is one of the most complex but increasingly relied-upon medical fields today. We are able to target areas of the brain and spinal column to address injury and disease in ways not possible several years ago. Our doctors now perform procedures to remove tumors and blockages, address intracranial bleeding, and reduce spinal and back pain, as well as numerous other issues that affect our patient population. The team of leading surgeons at Shaare Zedek perform several procedures every week on both adult and pediatric patients, and we see this as one of the fastest growing surgical services at the hospital.

Also, we are now able to comprehensively address head trauma in instances of terror attacks and major vehicular accidents. Shaare Zedek, located in the heart of Jerusalem, is positioned to be on the frontlines of emergency and disaster response. While we all pray for peaceful days ahead, it is clear that we need to remain ever vigilant and prepared for all types of realities.

I again thank you for taking the lead in supporting such a vital project. Throughout our many years of working together, The Fellowship has made a huge difference in the lives of our patients.

On behalf of the countless patients, families, and our staff members who will benefit from your kindness, please accept my warmest gratitude. I look forward to providing you with continued updates as this service grows in the months and years ahead.

Sincerely yours,
