New Documentary Highlights Daring Holocaust Rescuers

In 1939, Waitstill and Martha Sharp, a Unitarian minister and his wife, left their home and their two young children in Wellesley, Massachusetts, for a covert and dangerous mission in Czechoslovakia providing relief to people trying to escape Nazi persecution.

A new Ken Burns documentary, Defying the Nazis: The Sharps’ War, shares their amazing story through letters, journals, insights from historians and Holocaust scholars, and firsthand interviews with the grown children the Sharps saved.

The film airs tonight on PBS. Check your local listings for the time and channel.
