Faces of The Fellowship: Edna

Edna has been an orphan for 74 years. Her father died when she was a year old, her mother when she was 9. Today she is 83, living in Israel, and once again alone.

After making aliyah (immigrating to Israel) from her native Iran when she was 9, Edna went on to lead a full life. She got married and had three children. Today they are grown and don’t live very close to Edna. She sees them every few weeks.

In 2002, Edna was injured in a terror attack in a Netanya market. She was near the terrorist and was thrown a few yards away by his blast, breaking three vertebrae in her back. Shrapnel and a nail injured her leg, and she still finds it hard to walk. Today, she mostly uses a wheelchair to get around.

In addition to her mobility issues, Edna also suffers from trauma and anxiety that make it difficult for her to leave her home.  

Thankfully, The Fellowship ensures that Edna has all she needs. After ordering what she wants through our virtual supermarket, Edna receives regular food deliveries from Fellowship volunteers. She was delighted recently when Yael Eckstein delivered her food package. They two women enjoyed a lovely visit Edna will long remember with gratitude and joy.
