Aiding the World’s Poorest Holocaust Survivors in Their Final Days

Meet Olga, an elderly Holocaust survivor barely surviving in Ukraine. She doesn’t have enough food or warm clothing to make it through the bitter winter. Thankfully, Yael Eckstein recently delivered a Fellowship-food package and warm gloves to help Olga survive.

But there are still so many more Holocaust survivors living in abject poverty around the world. One in three Holocaust survivors in the United States and one-third of Holocaust survivors in Israel live below the poverty line. At least one fourth of some 200,000 Holocaust survivors in the FSU subsist without enough food, medicine, or heat in the winter.

“We must move quickly from memory to action to provide a measure of dignity to these Holocaust victims who are living their last days in crippling poverty,” said Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein. “We must remember the past. But we also must act now.”
