The Fellowship always wants to support needy and lone Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers, as they do so much to protect Israel! One of our soldier programs provides vouchers to young pre-induction recruits so they can purchase clothing, food, and other necessities for the holidays. This Rosh Hashanah, or Jewish New Year, we received a heart-felt letter from one of these soldiers:
To the Fellowship Family and Rabbi Eckstein!
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your care.
I was born in Israel and from a young age I grew up in various orphanages.
I was very much afraid of being drafted into the army, but I knew that if I completed military service it would be easier for me to study and work in the future.
At the recruiting office, I received a large backpack and a $100 voucher; this really saved me!
I was proud when I came to basic training with new equipment like everyone else.
A few weeks into basic training, my commander saw that I wasn’t taking a shower. He realized that I was very ashamed because I had no toiletries and didn’t want the other girls to know.
A week after, I received a box of shampoo, soap, socks, t-shirts and more. My commander had contacted the wonderful people at The Fellowship, who could provide these items.
Today I serve in the air force and I received a $140 Fellowship holiday gift card.
I intend to celebrate the holidays at Beit HaHayal (soldier's home) with new immigrants and friends I met who are also lone soldiers like me.
I'll buy beautiful clothes and delicious food that I'll have for the coming holidays.
You should know that you, wonderful Fellowship donors and Rabbi Eckstein, are my family who care about me!
Thanks to you, I can do my job in peace!
Keep doing holy work for the soldiers!
With great gratitude and happy holidays,
